I am a victim of gun violence. I was shot point blank in the back with a .45. Nevertheless, I don’t want to take away anyone’s gun (unless you have been convicted of a violent crime). Some greater accountability of, and for, lethal weapons just seems like good common sense to me.

Over the last few years, Republicans have been falling all over themselves in a quest to prove that they favor the proliferation of more lethal hardware than any of their potential political rivals. I am sure that the extreme fringe is suitably impressed.

Few can outdo the misadventures of my governor, Rick Scott. Palm Beach County has now sued Gov. Rick Scott and the
Legislature. They are fighting a new law that allows the governor to remove from
office any local officials who enact gun control ordinances.

Championed by the governor, House Bill 45, passed through the Legislature this year and took effect Oct. 1. It allows Scott to yank from office any officials who pass gun control laws;
allows a court to fine the officials $5,000 for it; and gives a private
cause of action to any “persons or organization whose membership is
adversely affected” by such a law, who may sue the officials for damages
of up to $100,000 plus costs.

We have great weather but pay for it by enduring wingnuts. Ugh!
