Money Down the Toilet

National Organization for Marriage will ultimately confirm the scientific fact that there is no bottomless pit of money. HRC reports that Delano Hunter, who plans to run in the special election for the Ward 5 Council seat, has changed his tune on marriage equality. Hunter announced he will not seek to overturn the Marriage Equality Act, a complete change from his NOM-backed campaign against Thomas Harry in the September 2010 primary.

In 2010, anti-gay groups supported Hunter’s call for a voter referendum to overturn the same-sex marriage ballot. According to the Washington Blade:

The anti-gay National Organization for Marriage and other national groups opposed to same-sex marriage contributed tens of thousands of dollars for direct mail, robocalls, and racially divisive fliers attacking Thomas during his re-election campaign in 2010, according to Right Wing Watch, an LGBT-supportive organization.
Right Wing Watch said some of the same anti-gay groups supported Delano Hunter’s race against Thomas but didn’t contribute large amounts of money directly to his campaign. NOM sent a mailer supportive of Hunter to residents of Ward 5 in 2010.
