The Blade is reporting that an anonymous DC activist has orchestrated the withdrawal of the Ugandan ambassador from keynoting UNCF’s Martin Luther King Day celebration.

While Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill has been shelved, LGBT citizens of Uganda remain in considerable peril at the hands of an oppressive anti-gay regime. Moreover, the bill could be reintroduced any time. The bill represented the combined efforts of United States religious right organizations and the Ugandan government, including its parliament.

A spokesperson for the United Negro College Fund, said in a statement
that the organization has a strong policy opposing discrimination based
on sexual orientation. She said UNCF also opposes “abuses and violations
of human rights whenever they occur.”
