I know. I know. It is sophomoric to make a point with foul language. Nevertheless, there comes a time when you just have to say “fuck ’em.”
According to mynorthwest .com:
A Macy’s catalogue was sent to homes with a subtle message supporting
same-sex marriage. The wedding cake topper in the back of a stylish,
classic automobile features two grooms. The close up version of the ad,
though fuzzy, shows a same-sex couple on top of the cake.
A group affiliated with the American Family Association has started
an email campaign urging Macy’s to pull the image – which does not
appear in the online version of the company’s catalogue.
Meanwhile, over at ThinkProgress, AFA is Targeting JC Penney. AFA claims:
Recently JC Penney announced that comedian Ellen Degeneres will be the company’s new spokesperson. Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly. Unless JC Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war then their brand transformation will be unsuccessful.
The underlying theme to all of this is that the mere presence of gay people is offensive. Apparently, just the likeness (not even the presence) of a gay couple on a wedding cake is a problem. Apparently, Ellen should only market stuff to gay people because heterosexuals are offended by her. Although, last time I checked she had pretty good ratings.
I notice that the same cretins (or their inbred cousins) attacked Starbucks for supporting marriage equality. They didn’t have the balls to go after the two giants; Microsoft and Nike, who also support marriage equality because it is good for business. The Christianists knew what the answer would be: “Fuck ’em.”
No argument, analysis or sarcasm required. Just “fuck ’em.”
