Things are getting very tense for NOM.  In addition to their primary goal of banning gay marriage, they are spread thin trying to punish those who have either defied or slighted them. This as their cause is becoming more unpopular by the day.

I will get to NOM’s unredacted tax return in a moment. Before playing victim and accusing people of illegal activities, National Organization for Marriage should first comply with various state laws concerning electoral campaign finances. While they have lost every court challenge, they continue to flout Maine campaign finance disclosure laws. Furthermore, they have not complied with applicable laws in New York. I am informed that they are willfully disobeying several other state election disclosure laws as well.

NOM is an Opus Dei affiliate and a proxy for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Nowhere in the various state laws, that NOM chooses not to obey, is there an exemption for devout Catholics.

Recently, National Organization for Marriage has demonstrated certitude that the source of their unredacted  tax return (the one that was provided to HRC) was an IRS employee. The reality is that NOM made a big deal of this in order to distract from an extremely embarrassing public disclosure of their race baiting strategy, a jarring loss in New Hampshire and Maggie’s very public humiliation by the shareholders of Starbucks. Now they want to further distract from their futile and silly boycott of Starbucks since it has been an utter and complete failure.

Today brought another Gimme Money with alternate theories over the source of the tax return:

Scandal is building over the release of one of NOM’s confidential
tax documents. The release of this document is due to either an
IRS employee leak, someone hacking into IRS systems, or someone
illegally impersonating a NOM official to obtain this
confidential information-information then retailed to the public
by the Human Rights Campaign and the Huffington Post.

“Retailed?” Try as they might, there is no “scandal” here. More importantly, NOM still leaves out the most obvious explanation that a NOM employee forwarded the return to HRC. That includes the possibility that Brian Brown did so to bolster Mittens’ campaign with religious conservatives or to play the victim card.  Occam’s razor suggests that a NOM employee or an employee of their treasurer, Neil Corkery (who works out of a separate office), forwarded the materials in question. That is the simplest explanation.

Plan B is now in effect which is an attempt to portray HRC as part of the Obama campaign because Joe Solmonese, its CEO, is leaving to be a co-chair of the Obama campaign.  In 2008, by the way, there were 32 co-chairs.

One can only guess what Brian, Maggie and the rest of the gang are going to do if they lose Amendment One in North Carolina. The state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage is coming up for a vote on May 8. Could Brian Brown even survive such a loss?
