NOM employee Thomas Peters attended Ave Maria University, an intellectually dismal institution that is essentially Tom Monaghan‘s hobby. I don’t know why Mr. Peters did not attend St. John’s, Georgetown or Notre Dame (if a Catholic school was de rigueur). If he had, he might have developed some critical thinking skills. Mr. Peters fancies himself as “American Papist.” Presumably, others do his thinking.
What? Too personal? For someone who accepts a salary to denigrate gay people? Must I cite the evils that he perpetrates?
As much as Sen. Alesi is now complaining about how much money he will have to spend defending himself against a primary challenge from within his own party after he betrayed his constituents and voted for gay marriage, he is still attempting to earn accolades for that vote outside of his state. Talk about a marriage of convenience.
Perhaps, if Mr. Peters employed some intellectual curiosity, he would know that Sen. Alesi has been in the New York legislature for over 20 years (four years in the Assembly; 16 years in the Senate). Furthermore, Alesi was not complaining about primary costs. He explained that his vote as a Republican for marriage equality was principled and not for campaign contributions. As he said, he knew that he would have to compete against National Organization for Marriage which would make his reelection more difficult. Fortunately, for Mr. Alesi, he has been receiving considerable funds from “Rockefeller” Republicans. What must irk Mr. Peters is this quote from Senator Alesi:
I swore with my hand on the Bible to uphold the Constitution … I
didn’t swear with my hand on the Constitution to uphold the Bible.
