It is just one sentence introducing a web link. Nevertheless, it tells us all that we need to know about National Organization for Marriage’s stance on reorientation “therapy.” The link is to a story that NOM describes as: New California Law Would Forbid Professionals from Helping Teens with Unwanted Same-Sex Attraction. The sentence introducing the link;

“Parents and/or teens’ wishes notwithstanding:”

NOM doesn’t get it. Actually NOM doesn’t want to get it. Aside from the fact that such “therapies” are sheer quackery, they are toxic. A teen cannot give informed consent. The only reason that a teen would “wish” such nonsense is because of parental pressure.The only reason that a parent would do so is because of willful ignorance born of zealous religious zealotry.

The reason that NOM doesn’t want to get it is simple. As Rachel explained quite eloquently last night, once you accept that sexual orientation is immutable it becomes nearly impossible to oppose marriage equality. Even more important, perhaps, is the acceptance that scripture is not infallible.

This time, NOM cannot explain this away as “just a link.” They describe and introduce it in a way that clearly indicates NOM’s endorsement.
