Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays has filed a complaint with the Maryland Board of Education
against Montgomery Count School Superintendent Joshua Starr. Superintendent Starr objected to PFOX handing out “change is possible” fliers to school children. PFOX claims that Starr is discriminating against so-called ex-gays.
PFOX would have people believe that they are supporting and protecting a vulnerable minority. In point of fact, PFOX exists to justify discrimination against gay people by fundamentalist Christians. PFOX is a hate group whose board includes notorious anti-gay bigots, Matt Barber, Peter Sprigg, Robert Knight and Thomas Strohbar. At one time or another all of the aforementioned have individually called for the criminalization of homosexuality. Each of these characters makes a living, at least in part, by denigrating gay people, ostensibly for religious reasons.
If someone claims to be ex-gay, nobody cares. When that same person embarks on a crusade to spread “pray away the gay” nonsense and dangerous reparative “therapy,” then they are going to receive the scrutiny and criticism that they very much deserve.
Telling young school children that sexual orientation is a choice amounts to hate speech.
