In Chicago, the Chick-fil-A saga continues.Chicago Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno is holding CFA accountable for their anti-gay activities     if the company wants to expand in the Windy City that is. In return, Chick-fil-A executives seem to be jerking the Alderman around with conflicting public and private statements.

As a businessman I believe that, if CFA (or its franchisee) can qualify for leases and meet applicable codes and ordinances, then they should be in business. Moreover, it’s their money and they can give it away as they choose. However, as a gay man I am cheering Alderman Moreno on for drawing a line in the sand. These Christianist schmucks (who hate me as a Jew as well) need people to push back.

As an aside, while the Alderman is concerned about Chick-fil-A funding anti-gay groups, I am more concerned with their real compliance with Atlanta’s anti-discrimination ordinance at their corporate HQ. Is there a career path for LGBT people at CFA or have they hung a big gays need not apply sign on the door to their human resources department? What is their record with franchisee applicants?

Alderman Moreno is clearly frustrated with what he perceives to be intentional confusion. He writes on his tumblr blog:

Mr Cathy continues to not confirm to the press what his company
executives have told and showed me. This is disturbing. Since Mr. Cathy
wants to confuse people, he needs to publicly confirm the three
components described above, which allowed us to move forward. I am
simply asking Mr. Cathy to confirm statements and documents that HIS
company executives provided to me. It is pretty simple, Mr. Cathy. Do
you acknowledge and support the policies that your executives outlined
to me in writing or do you not? Yes or no? If not, Chick Fil A is a
business that practices irresponsible, and potentially illegal, business
