Ken Hutcherson is pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Kirkland, Washington and a former NFL linebacker. You might recall that, in 2007, Hutcherson, along with Scott Lively, traveled to Latvia to spread his brand of homophobia claiming that he was a White House special envoy. The Bush administration responded that this was a fabrication.
Protect Marriage Washington kept Hutcherson at a distance from this year’s marriage equality contest. Of course, according to him, that is why opponents of equality lost:
We had the National Organization for Marriage, we had Focus on
the Family and the Family Policy Institute basically say that many
of us that were leaders out here were too controversial … They did not want me involved basically in
the top leadership, so I took a back seat and let them run with it.
And that really hurt our unity out here.
I am praying that we really get in the face of the Church,
really get in the face of the conservative leaders … We have major churches out here that did not stand up, did
not even raise a finger to defeat this whole thing on same-sex
marriage, and that is just an abomination to God.
I note that Hutcherson is now going with a “Dr.” honorific. Sure Ken. Sure. Hutcherson attended (unaccredited) Cascade Bible College for a year.
