Survey conducted on Election Day Confirms September Poll Showing Widespread Support for Man/Woman Marriage
… The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today released the results of a nationwide survey of voters conducted on Election Day that shows 60% of Americans who voted in the election favor marriage being the union of one man and one woman.
First of all, this poll was conducted by Kellyanne Conway’s firm. Ms. Conway is a Republican operative. She was the Todd Akin consultant who compared GOP attacks to the siege on Waco.
“Once you take God out of the equation, there remains no reason to oppose equal marriage.”
More importantly, civil rights are not dependent upon the whims of the electorate. As gay citizens we do not delude ourselves. While we are ecstatic about our four wins on election day, we realize that there is a swath of our country where such victories would be very difficult to achieve. That we might not be successful in the Bible Belt only reinforces our determination to win in the courts in order to preclude insults to the First Amendment with laws being made in recognition of religion. Once you take God out of the equation, there remains no reason to oppose equal marriage.
