The self-described American Papist would be putting chocolate on cherries were it not for the conservative Catholic bubble. He’s found a home at National Organization for Marriage.

According to Mr. Peters:

Thomas Peters NOM

After today’s rulings by the Supreme Court, every American has a larger stake in the outcome of the marriage debate. No one can afford to stay out of this issue because these decisions today constitute a huge threat to our democratic process.

Really? Or could it be that Peters and the other knuckleheads at NOM just don’t like those decisions. Did Mr. Peters divine this hypothesis as a direct result of his theological training at Ave Maria U? Ah, but he’s not done:

The Proposition 8 ruling is the most disturbing. Though the Court chose not to rule on the merits, it did establish a terrible precedent, ruling that citizens who pass an initiative do not have the legal right or standing to defend that law when elected officials refuse to do their job and defend the duly enacted law in court.

That’s wrong too. The problem occurred because the sponsors of Proposition 8 could not identify what harm would come to them if the law was not upheld. It was a glaring deficit that Judge Walker addressed at trial.

The reason for this is simple. Supporters of Proposition 8 had a religious objection to marriage equality. Hard as they tried, they could not construct a secular reason to ban same-sex marriages. They have been trying to baffle us with their bullshit since this case first began.

Peters’ problem is that he is too stupid or too naive, possibly too stupid and naive to recognize the difference between the bullshit and a valid argument. Meanwhile Peters joined with Brian Brown for a good Christian cry after the rulings were announced.
