An email Family Research Council, signed by Tony Perkins, concludes:
You’ll keep hearing lies from the Left in the media. Don’t be fooled by
the “inevitability” story. Across-the-board legalization of counterfeit
marriage is NOT inevitable. Truth can prevail — if we are faithful to
This email also has twelve links to the donation page on the hate group’s website. Perkins is possibly more interested in money than marriage equality.
And oh, behold the victims and the scare quotes:
A recent poll shows that 85% of Americans do not believe a Christian
baker or photographer defending God’s “created marriage” should be
forced to participate in a same-sex “wedding”. The American drive for
religious freedom is strong.
I have no idea what “poll” Perkins is referring to (he does not provide a link). Nevertheless, he is promoting the idea that smearing butter-cream on sponge cake is some sort of religious sacrament. Taking photographs of a commitment ceremony is apparently doing gods work.
More importantly, Perkins is claiming that marriage equality is bad because a few Christians don’t want to comply with lawful anti-discrimination ordinances. Moreover, the two examples that he repeats in this email, several times, are in states that do not recognize same-sex marriage. That baker and photographer are in Oregon and New Mexico respectively.
