Former Alabama lawmaker, Jay Love, was recently contracted by Apple as a lobbyist. Love, an Alabama Republican, is about as anti-gay as every other Alabama GOPer which is to say that he staunchly opposes same-sex marriage as well as anti-discrimination laws that include LGBT citizens. Apple has terminated Love’s contract. He has reportedly been replaced by Greg Jones.
Apple CEO, Tim Cook, is also a native Alabaman. He is the first openly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company. “As a state, we took too long to step toward equality,” Cook said. “We were too slow on equality for African Americans. We were too slow on interracial marriage, and we are still too slow for the equality for the LGBT community.”
Neither Apple nor Mr. Love have commented on this situation. It has been widely speculated that Love was fired when his anti-gay views came to the attention of Mr. Cook. Thus far Love has not been mentioned by the usual sob sisters — Todd Starnes, American Family Association, Family Research Council et al. It seems that for Atlanta fire chief Kelvin Cochran‘s 15 minutes have expired. Mr. Love is teed up as having been persecuted for his Christian beliefs about marriage.
