Today’s press release from Liberty Counsel is disturbing because it is truthful:
Today Matt Bevin becomes the 62nd Governor of Kentucky. The
political outsider, who has never held a public office, is just the
ninth Republican governor of the Commonwealth. Rowan County Clerk Kim

After all, what better way is there to welcome a “Christian” governor than to have a homophobic, thrice-divorced Christian crackpot in attendance?
“There is no question that the case of Kim Davis and the issue of religious freedom played a role in the Governor’s lopsided win,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “Kentuckians favor traditional values, and they are tired of the political elites represented by former Governor Beshear and Attorney General Jack Conway. The voters sided with religious liberty,” said Staver.
Staver is probably right. Kim Davis energized conservative Christians to vote and to get out the vote. Conway was infinitely more qualified but (based upon the result) ran a terrible campaign. Conway failed to motivate his voters to go to the polls.
“On the night he won the election, Gov. Bevin tweeted that he would bring ‘Christian principles to Frankfort.’ During his campaign and following his election, Gov. Bevin promised he would issue an executive order respecting the religious liberty of Kim Davis and other Kentucky clerks. We look forward to a new day in Kentucky,” concluded Staver.
How fucking scary is that? A governor claiming that he will violate the Establishment Clause. Moreover, there are numerous Kentucky residents who are not Christian. As a Jew I find the statement highly offensive. How on earth did Conway lose to this schmuck?
As for Kim Davis, this nonsense about removing her name from the forms only became important after Staver was rebuked by the appeals court when they refused to stay the injunction issued by the district court. The Court made it abundantly clear that Davis would lose her appeal on the merits.
