Friday in an email money-beg Tim Wildmon, head of the anti-gay hate group American Family Association, wants people to be afraid. Of course giving money to AFA is the solution to their fears. Among the things that should terrify people are “aggressive secularism,” “the militant homosexual movement” and, of course, “radical Islam.”
According to Webster, militant means “combative and aggressive in support of a political or social cause, and typically favoring extreme, violent, or confrontational methods.” It occurs to this observer that we have kicked “their” asses in court rather than through extreme, violent, or confrontational methods. About the most violence you are likely to get from Edie Windsor or Jim Obergefell is the clicking of their ballpoint pen. Might they have bared the tip of the pen with extreme aggressiveness? Only they know for sure.
Wildmon goes on to opine:
The sexual revolution has triumphed, and homosexual activists continue
to insist that the Christian sexual ethic be removed from schools,
government, and the workplace. Christians who dare to speak in
opposition – or worse, simply believe differently – will be punished.
Really? And examples of that awful oppression would be, who exactly? Apparently Wildmon believes that Christians are a persecuted minority group.
Mr. Wildmon needs to know that the only thing that his LGBT fellow citizens want is equal protection which includes being free of discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations. Sadly, in Tupelo Mississippi where AFA is headquartered, that is not the case. People in Tupelo are free to discriminate without consequences.
Tupelo was (and perhaps still is) home to the Knights of the Green Forest (KKK). Mississippi’s White Knights of the KKK were the most militant and violent Klan organization. See how that word militant comes up? Someone in Tupelo, of all places, should be careful about the use of that word. I often wonder if Don Wildmon, Tim’s father and former head of AFA, has some neatly folded perforated sheets in his closet. AFA’s rhetoric suggests that to be the case.
