On February 17 Family Research Council, an anti-LGBT hate group, is hosting: “Bruce or Caitlyn? Why Everyone Should Care About the Transgender Movement.” The very premise of this religion-inspired bigotry is offensive. The event features polemicist Stella Morabito. She will not disappoint the faithful. In October, 2014 I documented her utterly nutty views on marriage equality.
Speaking of nutty, in December, 2014 Morabito joined uber-crackpot, Robert Oscar Lopez for a presentation at Catholic University of America. Morabito’s shtick has been to characterize politeness, restraint and respect as malevolent political correctness. In essence, “bigotry is cool!” She has an inventory of crassness permission slips. According to the organizers of the CUA event:
Stella Morabito spoke about how political correctness can be used to suppress anything that does not conform to the ideological orthodoxy of the most powerful or the social elites.
He went on to explain that, according to Morabito, the purpose of political correctness is to stymie dissent. Apparently it has nothing to do with civility which is the tool of elites (the secular forces of darkness).
In 2013, Morabito wrote, at orthodox-Catholic Witherspoon Institute’s blog:
Political correctness has cultivated an illusion of support for laws
that undermine fundamental institutions of society, including marriage
and family. The only way to dispel this illusion, and to reverse the
damage these laws will do, is to revive true civil discourse.
In November, 2014 in a piece in the Federalist Morabito referred to gender reassignment surgery as “genital mutilation.” That is consistent with the conservative Christians who pretend that transgender citizens do not really exist. Her piece suggests that transgender people regret their surgery. According to a respected German study provided by NIH, 90.2% of male to female surgical patients, five years out, said their expectations for life as a woman were fulfilled. The conclusion of the study, along with a caution regarding the sample:
The very high rates of subjective satisfaction and the surgical outcomes
indicate that gender reassignment surgery is beneficial. These findings
must be interpreted with caution, however, because fewer than half of
the questionnaires were returned.
A piece on the Huffington Post explores surgical satisfaction in far more detail. The basic theme is that religious conservatives like to muddy the waters to create doubt; mythology vs. reality.
Getting back to FRC’s promotion of this event:
The transgender movement – the demand that society accept, protect, and subsidize the choices of those who reject their inborn biological sex – was brought into bold relief last year when Bruce Jenner announced he now identifies as a woman named Caitlyn. In tandem with television programs featuring transgendered characters and even consideration of allowing transgendered persons to serve in the military, the issue of transgenderism has become a source of great cultural and political controversy.
The movement is generally presented as a campaign for the freedom of all to pursue their own “gender identity.” However, writer and cultural critic Stella Morabito argues that it is about the opposite of freedom. In waging war against the nature of gender and human sexuality, language, identity, free expression, privacy, and free association, transgender activists are replacing the laws of nature with the power of the state.
In other words keep the penis or vagina that God gave you. God is perfect. Allah Akbar.
