This story won’t make it to national media but one 14-year-old was showing off a gun to another 14-year-old who was accidentally shot and killed last night. We have enough weaponry in Miami-Dade to take and occupy a small country. We also have more than our fair share of preventable gun deaths.

The surviving kid has been charged with manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a minor. He is being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center in downtown Miami. Two lives ruined because of far too many guns with far too little gun safety. There has been a rash of these things in South Florida lately and nobody gets the message. There is no Florida law that holds this kid’s parents responsible. Sometimes I feel like sending every Florida legislator a copy of my x-ray images prior to my surgeries.
