Today the Supreme Court of the United States declined to hear anti-gay hate group, Liberty Counsel’s challenge to the New Jersey law prohibiting sexual reorientation therapy for minors. This means that fewer that four justices were interested in hearing the case.
Liberty Counsel claimed that the ban infringed on First Amendment rights. According to Mat Staver, head of Liberty Counsel:
As a result of today’s decision, our client – whose life was literally saved by this counseling – has been told by his government that it does not care about that or about his values. We pray for our client and countless other minors like him in New Jersey who have now been denied their basic freedom of self-determination.
Lifesaving? Really? Some gay teen is pretending to be straight to satisfy other people like his parents and pastor. These folks have had more than ample opportunities to demonstrate that such therapy is safe and effective. They never produce any evidence to support their case. Every professional medical and counseling organization has determined that sexual orientation is innate, that these efforts do not succeed and that they are potentially harmful.
