Hate group leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council reacted Monday night to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal’s veto of an anti-gay “religious liberty” bill. According to Perkins:
The Devil has gone down to Georgia again, but this time it was in the form of big business and cowardly politicians.
No person or nonprofit should lose tax exempt status, face fines, lose a professional license or be punished by the government simply for believing what President Obama believed just a few years ago, that marriage is the union of a man and a woman. State coercion of faith-based organizations and their millions of adherents for the sake of a radical ideological agenda — all in the name of ‘freedom’ — is an affront not just to Georgians but to all Americans.
Perkins does this deliberately. This has nothing to do with what anyone believes. This is about discriminatory actions. “State coercion of faith-based organizations?” When and where? Who has been coerced? How has Family Research Council been intimidated. It certainly hasn’t caused Perkins to be truthful. For all his self-righteousness Mr. Perkins is just another dishonest Louisiana politician with direct ties to the Klan.
Georgia does not afford any protections against discrimination for its LGBT citizens and taxpayers. The intent of the new bill, drafted by ADF, was to effectively nullify ordinances in Atlanta and other locales.
