Janet Porter

I received an email from Janet Porter/Faith2Action today. For fifty bucks she offers to send a protest fax to every Target store scolding them for trans access policies. For just $25 Porter will send a fax to 500 Target stores. Porter is presumably unaware that sending duplicate unsolicited faxes is probably a violation of the Junk Fax Prevention Act. In her email to supporters, Porter claims to have sent out tens of thousands of faxes.

BEYOND THE BOYCOTT And now there’s something tangible you can do beyond the boycott of Target. At F2A org [link removed] you can click a button to send more than 1,750 faxes to Target stores around the country. This is an issue we can win, but we have to continue to fight!

Then there is this bit:

The fax machines at Target stores are humming, but we need to put them on overload!

That is malicious. Sending unsolicited faxes with the intent to disable the recipient’s fax capability is also actionable. Furthermore, bulk fax blasts can be had for a penny per page. What she charges $25 for costs her $5.00. The $50 deal costs her $17.53. Those are healthy markups to say the least. Advocacy should not be a for-profit enterprise.

If Porter’s goal is to piss off Target store personnel, she might succeed. If she honestly believes that anyone cares about her faxes, she is sadly mistaken. Porter has done this before, offering to send faxes to members of Congress. She is a menace who has found a cottage industry.
