The notion that a gay couple have a nice home and healthy, happy children is very disturbing to the orthodox Catholics at LifeSiteNews. “Let’s present that they do not exist!” Better yet, let’s mis-characterize their ad and denigrate Google for showing us the reality. Steve Weatherbe’s version of events is: “Google promotes same-sex ‘marriage,’ gay adoption in new ad.” Promotes? It seems to me that they are promoting a product.
According to Weatherbe:
Google is continuing its attempts to mainstream the homosexual
lifestyle with a 30-second video showing a male couple getting their
photogenic children off to grade school.
Oh the horror!
But here is the best part:
REAL Women’s [Gwendolyn] Landolt believes Google is currying favor with left-liberal lobby groups such as the Human Rights Campaign.
“They are part of its kennel of mad dogs,” she told LifeSite. Whenever someone or organization offends against the LGBT cause, said Landolt, “HRC opens the kennel and lets the dogs out.”
My batshit-to-English app was unable to process the above. Is Google’s ad a conspiracy with HRC to … to do what exactly? Landolt is a Canadian lawyer and a religious crusader. REAL Women is a Canadian version of Family Research Council.
“By doing what the Human Rights Campaign wants, they can be sure they are safe from attack themselves,” she added.
However, the problem with the ad normalizing same-sex couples is that the social sciences indicates that “Children require a mother and a father. The ad is an abuse of children. Google is supporting an abnormality,” said Landolt.
The reality, of course, is that social science overwhelmingly concludes that children raised in same-sex households are as healthy, happy, secure and successful as their peers. I am still trying to figure out what HRC has to do with a Google ad. Google has one objective — to sell devices that compete directly with Amazon’s Echo series.
Landolt cited research by Douglas Allen of Simon Fraser University based on a large and random sample of same-sex and heterosexual couples taken from the Canadian census. Titled “High school graduation rates among children of same-sex couples” and published in 2013, it found children living in same-sex parented households graduated at two-thirds the rate of children in heterosexual families.
Yeah, well Allen is an obscure economist and not a social scientist. He is also a proud Defender of the Faith. Allen did no original research relying on a literature review which is, by design, an exercise in selective observation.
A year earlier, Dr. Mark Regnerus of the University of Texas-Austin released a controversial study finding a wider range of negative outcomes for children raised in same-sex families compared with heterosexual families.
As we all know, Regnerus did not study children raised by same-sex parents. That makes Landolt’s statement wishful bullshit.
The only thing that Google wants to do is to generate revenues. That’s it. Appealing to gay couples and gay allies is usually a good strategy. This is all about dollars. Nothing more.
