Julaine Appling is with Wisconsin Family Action. She is also astonishingly confused about science, gender, sexuality and just about everything else that doesn’t conform to scripture. Appling is distressed that a federal appeals court ruled in favor of a Wisconsin trans high school boy, Ash Whitaker.
Appling is upset because the authors of her simplistic ancient texts knew nothing about gender let alone gender as a contrast to sex. The very existence of trans people is an affront to her religious beliefs which are a mix of mysticism and superstition.
Suddenly, though, Appling has developed an appreciation for science. She is aided and abetted by none other than Charlie Butts, one of American Family Association’s village idiots who writes: Science says one thing, judges say another. According to Butts:
Appling argues that for liberals, science is their god – until they don’t like what science says; particularly science that says people are born with male or female chromosomes. But liberals, she says, won’t admit that that is a biological determinant – “or acknowledge that as a reality and that trying to change one’s sex or gender is an emotional, mental, psychological issue, not a physiological issue.”
According to science, most people (not all) are, indeed, born with male or female chromosomes. Most people also have gender congruent with their sex but some people do not. Those who do not, according to science, have gender dysphoria. Again, according to science, there is no medical intervention to treat gender dysphoria. Therefore, scientists have found that the most effective treatment is gender affirmation. Being transgender is a form of gender affirmation.
In other words what the fuck are you two imbeciles talking about? In no way were the judges at odds with the scientific consensus.
