Ben Rogers and Mark Poidevin

About five years ago, Brian S. Brown was schlepping Doug Mainwaring from venue to venue to testify against marriage equality. Mainwaring was billed as the “gay man who opposes gay marriage.” Today the ne’re-do-well Mainwaring is an anti-LGBT polemicist for an ultra conservative Catholic outlet and more rabidly homophobic than Tony Perkins. He actually believes that he is “objectively disordered” in accordance with Church teachings.

The Catholic Church has now found two miserable self-loathing Australian faggots; “The gay couple who oppose same-sex marriage.” Ben Rogers and Mark Poidevin have been together for 15 years. According to local media:

Ben said while he respects that other couples might want to wed, he is committed to preserving traditional marriage.

“There’s never been any discrimination with any of our families, or dramas coming our way because of our sexuality,” he said.

“When I first came out I think one of the consequences was giving up marriage and children and things like that.”

Concerned about ‘where it would lead’

Mark, a committed Catholic, has changed his stance on same-sex marriage since he proposed to Ben five years ago.

Australia’s longest-running annual lifestyle survey has revealed women are having second thoughts about whether a husband is for life, while support is growing for same-sex marriage.

“If we make one exception for one community, that being the same-sex couples, where does it stop?” Mark said.

If these two imbeciles don’t like same-sex marriage then they can choose not to marry. However, they are trying to influence public policy on behalf of the Catholic Church in order to preclude other gays from marrying. “Where does it stop?” When will the Church stop trotting out people to make moronic slippery-slope arguments?

One thing is noticeably missing in the campaign for marriage discrimination — just as it was missing in the United States. You never hear an argument opposing marriage equality that begins with: “In Massachusetts —” Now over 13 years and no opposite-sex marriage has ever been affected.
