|Cheryl K. Chumley
Washington Times polemicist
As I finish one piece relative to the imbecilic spew of Cheryl K. Chumley at the Washington Times she reaches new heights for stupidity: “California crazy: Calling a ‘he-she’ a ‘he’ can now get you jailed.” The raw bigotry is just appalling. It is the kind of over-the-top rhetoric that got Chumley fired from her previous job. As she has written, blaming (of course) liberals:
It was just such minds that fired me a few years back from my local newspaper job for the offense of writing politically right when I should have gone left — for countering the leftist environmental views of the paper’s owners and pet green-grouping colleagues in a freelance expose that I wrote — get this — after receiving the go-ahead from one of my editors.
Yeah, sure. The woman is out of control. She also needs to grow up. Calling a person with gender dysphoria a “he-she” is what might be expected from a poorly raised fifth-grader.
Aside from the bigotry, every Chumley polemic is some sort of fear mongering. She warns of dire consequences from the proverbial slippery slope at the hands of evil liberals which are everyone except: White-Christian-Republican-Gun nut-Cisgender-Heterosexual people.
It’s madness in California, as Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, of course, just signed into law a bill that creates special rights for LGBT senior-age adults in long-term nursing care that requires them to be referred to by their gender pronouns of choice.
Those who don’t? It’s off to jail they go. Free speech, anyone?
At the least, violators could be forced to pay up to $1,000 in fines.
If the expectation of being treated with dignity and respect is a “special right” then so is just about every privilege that we all enjoy as human beings. “Special rights” is the rhetoric of bigots and hate groups. They have been mindlessly claiming that any measure of LGBT equality is a special right for decades. Ms. Chumley is part of the club dominated by right wing religious nut jobs who are Christian supremacists and super-Calvinists who, ironically enough, are seeking well, … special rights.
I do not know if Chumley bothered to read the measure. She is either content to guess based on the musings bouncing around the echo chamber. If she did read the bill (which I doubt) then she is content to mislead her readers. Her constituency are not exactly the most intellectually curious folks around.
Yes, California is trying to protect transgender people in nursing homes and to preserve their dignity. An offense has to be willful and repeated for anything to occur. Why, exactly, does this pose a problem for any rational, caring person? Why would anyone think that it is their job — their mission in life — to denigrate a transgender person in a nursing home? It makes no sense and it is infuriating.
Ms. Chumley is profoundly ignorant. People are transgender because it is the only thing that relieves the symptoms of gender dysphoria which often include intense anxiety and depression. They did not choose to have the condition and there is no intervention known to science or medicine that addresses gender dysphoria. What is Chumley’s major malfunction? It is more than just an intellectual deficit.
