Republicans have foisted numerous conspiracy theories on the electorate; from Benghazi to birthers. I have a conspiracy theory of my own:

The Republican Party is nothing more than a conspiracy to achieve lower taxes for, and fewer regulations on, its donors regardless of the impact on anyone else. It then follows that anything is permissible for a GOPer if;

  1. They aren’t inextricably caught and;
  2. They help the party achieve or retain political power.

Take the case of married “family values” Ohio State legislator Wes Goodman. The Washington Post has reported that Goodman sexually assaulted an 18-year-old boy. According to the Post, on October 18, 2015 Goodman invited the teenage son of a Republican donor to his hotel bedroom in Washington, DC. The kid woke up at around 4:00 AM to find Goodman pulling down the zipper of his pants. Panicked, the young man fled from the room. Goodman was 31 at the time.

Goodman was in Washington because hate group leader Tony Perkins had organized an event for the Council for National Policy (which Perkins then headed) to endorse Goodman and raise funds for his campaign. Soon thereafter the boy’s stepfather complained to Perkins by email demanding sanctions and the withdrawal of the endorsement. On October 20, Perkins responded by email assuring the man that firm actiona would be taken.

Two days later the executive director of CNP, Bob McEwen, emailed the boy’s step-father. McEwen assured the man that strong action was about to take place.

At least one conservative asked for the4 return of his donation as the allegations became known within their circle. Undeterred, Goodman declared his candidacy for the Ohio House of Representatives a few weeks later which prompted a letter from Perkins, suspending him from CNP. Perkins also wrote:

The update on the status of your therapy and the on-going counseling is also very encouraging. While you have admitted and taken responsibility for your behavior, you have only begun the process of restoration.

In other words, the real crime was being gay in contrast to the sexual assault. All would be forgiven upon completion of conversion therapy.

Perkins has known about this for more than two years and contained it to prevent embarrassment to the party. For all Perkins knew, Goodman is a predatory pederast. Consider that Perkins has a penchant for claiming that gays are predisposed to pedophilia (which is demonstrably false).

In the final analysis, Perkins is just a shill for the Republican Party. All the rest of the family values BS is just hypocrisy about power and greed — which bring me back to my conspiracy theory. Mr. Perkins is clearly a conspirator.

I also note that the sexual assault of a teenager is fine. However, allowing a trans girl to pee in the girl’s bathroom at school … (well!) that’s a deal-breaker. GOPer family values at work.

Goodman resigned this week after it became known that he was having consensual sex with men in his state capitol office. More importantly, Goodman outlived his usefulness to the GOP.

According to Cleveland.com

In public, Wesley Goodman was an up-and-coming conservative who championed pro-family and anti-LGBT causes and aspired to someday run for Congress.

In private, he exchanged salacious texts and emails with gay men he met on Capitol Hill, and sent sexually suggestive messages to young men he met through conservative circles who were too intimidated to publicly complain, according to three people who knew him when he worked in Washington.

Goodman’s wife, Bethany, has refused comment.
