|Richard Cohen from the 2014 documentary film
The Third Way: Homosexuality and the Catholic Church
Cohen went from Jewish to evangelical Christian to Moonie.
Did he convert again?
It looks like Richard Cohen has gone away quietly. International Healing Foundation is no longer a tax-exempt entity. It filed its 990 with the IRS for 2015 as a final return. It looks to me like Cohen grabbed the remaining assets for himself through bloated expenses. Cohen’s website is still alive but most of the links do not work. Those that do work point to a site that sells at-home STD tests. Did Cohen die? Retire? Move with his wife to South Korea? Who knows? Maybe he became a Trappist monk.
Cohen’s buddy, Christopher Doyle, is still around with his Voice of the Voiceless schtick. Somehow, according to Doyle, so-called ex-gays are persecuted and victimized. Oh those poor supposedly heterosexual people.
Voice of the Voiceless asks for donations and is a 501(c)3 with an address in Virginia. It must have filed by postcard but, it had no reported revenues in 2016 and it reported no assets at year end. Apparently no one else is buying Doyle’s bullshit. At least not enough to give him some money. Nevertheless, as a tax exempt entity he can avoid some sales and use taxes.
in May of 2017 Doyle filed an odd, 45 page report with the FTC claiming that SPLC. the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Human Rights Campaign conspired to ban gay conversion therapy. They probably did and for good reason. It is thoroughly discredited pseudoscience that has been rejected by every mainstream medical and counseling professional organization. It is not only ineffective but toxic.
As for the report, it probably made its way down to some kid who works in the FTC mail room. He had no one to pawn it off on and he probably didn’t read it either. It is not even entertaining in its absurdity.
The ex-gay movement is still alive and being promoted by the Catholic Church but it has deteriorated significantly. Some bisexual people can probably swear off gay sex but, for the most part, the pretend heterosexuals usually revert to their natural sexuality.
