Tim Wildmon
Hate group leader Tim Wildmon – American Family Association

“Thoughts and prayers” have met their match for banality and impotence.

American Family Association’s own news blog refers to the group as a “pro-family organization.” It is the dishonest implication of an endorsement by independent media. Furthermore, with AFA the “family” in pro-family is limited to heterosexual Christians where no member is LGB or T. And Wildmon’s big idea?

In the ongoing discussion about gun control in the aftermath of the shootings in Florida, the American Family Association (AFA) says heart control should be at the forefront.

“The sixth commandment is ‘you shall not murder,'” notes AFA President Tim Wildmon. “We think that needs to be put on schools, on the marquees, on the front signs of every school in America: You Shall Not Murder.”

AFA is asking schools to do this for one week.

Sure. That’s going to stop a deranged and suicidal kid with an AR-15, possibly with a bump stock as if he is a rational thinker. Alone, the slogan does no arm. As a substitute for gun control (which is what Wildmon is oh-so-cleverly suggesting) it is extremely destructive — and noxious — and stupid.

The obvious solution to gun violence — the one that the mindless morons refuse to accept — is better gun control laws including registration, an assault weapons ban, better background checks and stricter age requirements. Everything else is just political pandering to the NRA. The NRA and its enablers will propose just about anything to avoid sensible gun safety. They do not seem to care that their political activities are literally killing and maiming people.

Arming teachers is terrible idea. It only puts more guns in play and a teacher with a pistol somewhere is a very poor match to a kid with an AR-15. Either the teacher is going to get shot or the teacher is going to injure students.

If you think that arming teachers might serve as a deterrent, consider that most mass shooters intend to die anyway. The Sandy Hook shooter committed suicide as did the Columbine shooters and the perpetrators of school shootings at Roseburg, OR, DeKaln, IL and Red Lake, MN. Parkland is a rare exception.

For me this is not an abstraction. I have been on the wrong end of a .45 in the hands of a criminal. I bear testament to the fact that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. When human tissue competes with bullets, the bullets always win. They may exist but I have never met a survivor of gun violence who thinks that more guns or biblical slogans are a solution to the carnage.

Mr. Trump is precisely what we expected: A self-absorbed narcissist. Trump has only one interest. Trump. Wildmon is just a useless idiot. He has neither the intellect nor critical thinking skills to reach rational conclusions. Furthermore, Wildmon bears allegiance to the Republican Party which is now a projection of Trump’s personality disorder. Wildmon is incapable and unwilling to find effective solutions to just about anything.
