|Hate group leader Tony Perkins – Family Research Council|
Tony Perkins has a special way of conveying his contempt for the people who keep the lights on at the anti-LGBT hate group, Family Research Council. Perkins makes some outrageous appeals which scream “I know you people are stupid and incurious.” Perkins has outdone his antipathy for donors with an email titled: “FRC uncovers bold new progressive threat.” Uncovers mind you.
Behold the bullshit:
I want to take just a few minutes to share with you a bold new progressive threat that seriously threatens our American values. **This is not front page news.**
But with your help, that is about to change. [link to donation page]
U.S. diplomats from our State Department are actively promoting a radical new vision of America including abortion-on-demand, marriage “equality,” special LGBT rights, and taxpayer funding of radical measures meant to cause unrest and civil disobedience in conservative countries.
I am sharing this information with you for three reasons:

The three reasons are three more pleas for money. Perkins offers no evidence that our diplomats are promoting anything that he doesn’t like and his descriptions are misleading. “Abortion-on-demand” is a meaningless bit of demagoguery to inaccurately describe reproductive choice. “Special LGBT rights” means LGBT equality measures that Perkins does not approve of. Perkins approves of none. He would prefer that we were second class citizens around the world because of his interpretation of some ambiguous passage that appears in those ancient chronicles. “Taxpayer funding of radical measures …” means absolutely nothing. We do not foment unrest abroad.
I take that back. Trump has fomented unrest abroad. He has listened to Christian Zionists like Perkins and campaign donors like Sheldon Adelson. He has decided to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. I haven’t done a survey but I would bet that most Jews in the U.S. would prefer to leave the embassy in Tel Aviv in order not to interfere — needlessly — with the Mideast peace process. But I digress.
What exactly has FRC uncovered? All Perkins has provided are generalizations. Where are the specifics of who is doing what to whom?
The greater problem is that, were this true, then Perkins is claiming that with enough money he can do what Trump cannot or will not do. The last time I checked our foreign service is part of the State Department which sets policy. Or is this more “deep state” mythology? This entire appeal is in Alex Jones conspiracy theorist territory down to the idea that FRC is the discoverer of the conspiracy.
Tony Perkins is not terribly bright but he is shrewd, greedy and determined. There is, as Perkins redundantly states states, a “threat that seriously threatens our American values.” That threat (that threatens) would be anti-American people like Trump and Perkins. Neither cares about the United States of America as much as they care about their own money and power. Perkins is just one person on a longer list of people who would like the United States to look like Iran or the Russian Federation.
As for those donors; they get what they pay for.
