|Doug Mainwaring doesn’t seem to have aged very well since his days as a NOM poodle, schlepped from hearing to hearing to express internalized homophobia.|
A victim of the Chilean clergy abuse crisis who met privately with Pope Francis told a Spanish news source that the Pope told him to accept himself as gay because God made him that way. If that is the case then I am not “objectively disordered.” If the Pope actually said that he is also dismissing the prominent mythology that the individual is gay because of the sex abuse he endured.
It is worth noting that in incurious conservative Christian circles some people believe that most gay men are gay because they were abused. Science disagrees but the Christians know more than the scientists,
All this does not sit well with Doug Mainwaring. Mainwaring, who is gay, knows perfectly well that his sexual orientation is not a choice and is perfectly natural. What was a choice was for Mainwaring to reunite with his wife (who is also gay) in order to conform to the dogma of the Catholic Church. Those two must have some sizzling sex.
In spite of knowing better, Mainwaring has penned: ‘God made you gay’: Did Pope Francis just tell the lie of the century?
It is something short of an intellectual triumph.
In this alleged comment, the Jesuit Pontiff made a giant leap from his already confounding, impenetrable, “Who am I to judge?” suggesting to the world that the Church is treading down a path to justifying LGBT identity and activity as fully normal. Such a path would be impossible for the Church of Christ.
What I find impenetrable is (no, not that) … is the notion that being gay is not normal or requires justification. Mainwaring is asserting that an embrace of superstition is superior to an acceptance of scientific fact. Many Christian variants have no problem with what is objectively accurate if not obvious. They accept gay clergy and gay adherents and even marriage equality. Yet Earth has not spun from it’s orbit and the lunar cycle remains as it has been for 4.5 billion years.
Mainwaring is incapable of separating dogma for actual truth. This leaves him in a very murky world where two plus two only equals four if the Church concurs with the mathematics. He can count that there are now four apples but dogmatic truth protests such actualities:
The souls of roughly two percent of the world’s population are now precariously balanced on the tip of the cupola atop St. Peter’s Basilica, waiting to see if the Church will save them through the telling of hard truths, or condemn them through affirmation.
It is probably more like 5% and possibly greater and he has things backwards. The Church currently condemns gay people though the adoption of doctrine that does not conform to reality. It is startlingly stupid to claim otherwise and Mainwaring knows better. At least he should.
Speaking of the spectacularly stupid:
The Pope’s words seem to belong to a new form of liberation theology––gay liberation theology––through which those who experience same-sex attraction are affirmed in their impulses, rather than encouraged to conform their lives to the Gospel.
New? Modern humans have been around for about 200,000 years. LGBT people have been around for about 200,000 years. Reducing sexual orientation to impulses is moronic. Gays are no more impulsive than straights.
Mainwaring should be more introspective than this:
Many of us who experience same-sex attraction and remain chaste are troubled by the Pope’s departure from both Church teaching and natural law, through which we have freedom and life. In seeking conjugal, complementary marriage rather than anti-conjugal, anti-complementary mono-gendered relationships, we seek nothing more than to fit in with the entire universe, to be part of the wonderful ecosystem of humanity and all of nature. Non-conjugal, non-complementary sexual relationships are a synthetic lifestyle, at odds with nature and the cosmos.
Mainwaring is a gay man, a homosexual if you prefer (same-sex attraction is just meaningless rhetoric). Then there is the conflation of sexual orientation with lifestyle. The two things are not interrelated. Finally, that “wonderful ecosystem of humanity” includes many natural variants of sexuality including gender and sexual orientation.
If Mainwaring wants to fit in, as he claims, then he needs a deprogrammer. A gay man has no business promoting this nonsense.
