|Grace Harley and Peter LaBarbera are not the moralists they claim to be|
The sanctimonious Peter LaBarbera is a second-rate con artist. He has his hand out for support without disclosing that donations are not tax-deductible. Some people will assume otherwise. My guess is that his personal taxes are a bigger mess than Americans for Truth About Homosexuality.
On his website, LaBarbera introduces us to “Grace Harley of One Solitary Voice Ministries.” Ms. Harley claims to be ex-trans or ex, … something; saved from depravity by Jesus himself.
The linked website purports to be for Jesus is the Answer Ministry and also World Wide Healing Healing Ministry International (must be world headquarters).
Harley also has her hand out. The donation page at PayPal:
The website provides no address but it does offer a telephone number, (240) 210-9015. That is listed to Palmer Suddeth of Waldorf, MD.
We begin with a search of the Internal Revenue Service Business Master File (I keep a local database). It was last updated on June 11, 2018. I tried all of the entity names (five possibles) with wild cards, front and back. I searched on the ICO (in care of) for Suddeth and Harley. I tried the Sort key which is a DBA field. Nothing. Zip. I tried Grace TV and GraceTV (the database is case insensitive). I tried worldwide and world wide. You get the idea.
Suffice it to say, Ms. Harley is not running a federally tax-exempt operation. So we go to the Maryland secretary of state for guidance. The only thing that gets a hit is Jesus is the Answer and that belongs to Faith Chapel Church in Hagerstown. I sent an email too. No reply.
In addition to asking for money, Grace sells stuff. For example:
Book on tape:
Amazing Grace God’s Law, Truth and Voice on Homosexuality
The Cry of Sodom Part 1 and 2 (DVD & CD)
And (AYFK?), for the perfect grift:
Nurture your Body
Harley’s Holistic Health Ministry Offering Just for You
K.M. Potassium Minerals Supplement
Those minerals can be yours for a “gift” of just $30. There is no mention of sales tax for Maryland residents which would require a resale license which would require registration with the secretary of state.
Grace Harley is another grifter. I have become accustomed to the fact that most of the ex-whatever people we know about make a living claiming to be ex-whatever which begs the question of which begat which. Imagine the oodles of money I could make if I claimed that I was saved by Moses. There don’t seem to be many of those or ex-gay Buddhists for that matter.
The point is that, if these holier-than-thou people have the temerity to ask a gullible public for money then they have a moral obligation to comply with federal state and local laws. They have a moral obligation to disclose where the money is going. They have a moral obligation to inform people whether or not their donation is tax-deductible. In short, these supposedly godly people have an obligation to be good citizens. Potassium minerals supplement?
