Brian S. Brown, on behalf of National Organization for Marriage, is selectively faithful. Scamming people is generally frowned upon by most religious conservatives; Christians, Jews, Muslims and others. Mr. Brown is promoting six scams on Wednesday.
Brown has sent an email to supporters titled: A supporter challenges us ….
Dear Friends—On Monday I wrote that confirmation hearings on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the US Supreme Court are set to begin on September 4th. The importance of confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court cannot be overstated.
Brian Brown has introduced the importance of NOM in getting Kavanaugh confirmed. In fact they do more harm to their cause than good. The most effective means of conveying your wishes to your senator is to call and then (snail) mail your comments. Pressure groups have some effect on the premise that they control the votes of a group of citizens.
However, it is unlikely that NOM can convince Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) that she will pay a price if she does not vote to confirm Kavanaugh.
Furthermore, if people abrogate personal responsibility by relying on NOM they have less clout than they have as individual citizens.
We strongly believe that Judge Kavanaugh will give us a pro-marriage majority on the Supreme Court and a clear path forward to restoring marriage to our nation’s laws.
Same-sex marriage is settled law. Moreover no reason exists to overturn Obergefell. The fact that the Catholic Church doesn’t like gay people is irrelevant to the matter and two-thirds of our citizens support marriage equality. Even Justice Gorsuch has said (without hesitation and with some emphasis) that it is settled law.
why we are going “all in” to help secure his confirmation, and devoting every available resource to the cause. Recognizing the importance of the work NOM can do to support Judge Kavanaugh, a generous supporter has stepped up with a challenge for us …
NOM is going to send out some email? “Every available resource” means what exactly? The notion that NOM is important in the confirmation process is just BS.
he will match every donation we receive through September 4th up to a total contribution of $40,000! This is an amazing offer that couldn’t come at a better time!
Matching donations are usually BS. At best it is just a restructuring of money already pledged or money that has already been received. The exception is when the matching donor is identified and he or she promotes the matching funds. That is not the case.
Will you help us with an emergency financial contribution today to help confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh knowing that it will instantly double in effectiveness thanks to this matching gift challenge?
NOM doesn’t say where these funds are going other than some vague boilerplate: “We’re already hard at work mobilizing the grassroots in support of Judge Kavanaugh.”
What? They are mobilizing people to contact their senators? How are they doing that? Kavanaugh’s confirmation probably rests with a couple of pro-choice Republican senators (Collins and Murkowsky). It would be easier if they could peel off Manchin. Is Brian Brown personally traveling to Alaska to get people to persuade Lisa Murkowski to vote in favor of Kavanaugh? “Grassroots” suggests just that.
NOM has targeted six Democratic Senators for particular attention
How that attention would be applied is unknown. The bottom line is that donating money to National Organization for Marriage is unlikely to affect Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
It’s imperative that we be able to counter the media spectacle and lies that the Left intends to create by making sure that Senators hear from grassroots supporters across America that they expect Judge Kavanaugh to be confirmed.
Aside from the phony cause to donate, the media has fairly conveyed Kavanaugh’s record. The Washington Post, for example, has a very balanced article regarding whether or not Kavanaugh believes that a president can be indicted. Kavanaugh was nominated on July 9. You would think that Mr. Brown could point to one lie that the media is responsible for perpetrating. He does not.
Brian S. Brown has no shame.
