Outgoing state senator and incoming executive director of Family Policy Institute of Washington Mark Miloscia.
In the wake of Joseph Backholm’s departure, the anti-LGBTQ Family Policy Institute of Washington has named a new executive director; Mark Miloscia. Miloscia, 60, is an outgoing Washington state senator who lost his bid for another term in the November 6 general election. For 2019 Democrats will continue to have majorities in both houses of the state legislature. Nevertheless, Miloscia might increase FPIW’s influence.
Miloscia opposes marriage equality and is presumed to follow the teachings of the Church as they apply to LGBTQ people. He is anti-choice. Miloscia is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He left the Air Force as a Captain after ten years. Miloscia has worked as a substitute teacher when the legislature was not in session. He has also been a lobbyist for the Washington State Catholic Conference of Bishops. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 2917 Miloscia called anti-Trump protests “unAmerican and unChristian.” Nuts. Peaceful protest is an exercise in patriotism. I cannot imagine how they might offend Christianity.
My prayers and wishes for success go out to President Trump, as he starts his duties as our President and Commander-in-Chief. May God grant him wisdom and peace as he addresses the many problems we face. May his family also be blessed, as they support him in his new role!
I also had hoped that many of President Trump’s political enemies would have adopted the graciousness of the Clintons and the Obamas toward Trump and the Office of the Presidency, rather than the ugly, unAmerican, and unChristian protest activities we have seen yesterday, and now today, across our state and nation by many people I know! For Shame! For Shame!
Despite considerable transphobic activism, FPIW has not been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The organization has a budget of $600 thousand out of which they paid Backholm $101 thousand. FPIW has been involved in several ballot initiatives attacking marriage equality and, more recently, transgender accommodations. It lost every one of those. I continue to believe that at least two of FPIW’s initiatives were scams for the personal benefit of Mr. Backholm who is now with the Colson Center.
