A new measure making its way through the Tennessee legislature would direct the state’s attorney general to defend any school district in the state that is sued for not protecting transgender students by providing gender-appropriate access to facilities.
In other words, if passed, the legislature is sending a note to every school board directing them to abuse transgender kids. “Oh, and if you get sued, no problem. Our attorney general will defend the school at no cost to you.”
Therefore, this is one of those proverbial bathroom bills without having to go through the terribly tedious process of claiming that “men who identify as women” are determined to rape innocent cisgender girls.
It is Tennessee. Home to Crazy Chris Sevier. This will probably pass and get signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee. If we had a decent Supreme Court this would be invalidated for what it is: Respecting the establishment of religion.
