“It is just awful. All those pregnant black women who are abducted by employees of Planned Parenthood …”

The National Day of Mourning was held on Saturday, August 31. Among sponsors were Family Research Council, an anti-LGBT hate group and the Thomas More Society, a fundamentalist Catholic legal group. Less known sponsors included Civil Rights for the Unborn, Douglass Leadership Institute and the Restoration Project. The first is not a federal non-profit and appears to be Alveda King’s hobby horse. The latter two are very small 501(c)3 organizations with impressive websites.
The whole thing is premised on lies. According to the website of the event:
Planned Parenthood has long targeted Black babies and women under their plan of extermination called The Negro Project. They have used abortion to advance the eugenic cause and their efforts have resulted in the deaths of more than 20,000,000 Black lives.
Get a grip. The Negro Project was a 1939 effort to advance the use of birth control. While there were direct overtones of racism it had absolutely nothing to do with abortion. It had the support of influential black leaders including Mary McLeod Bethune, W. E. B. DuBois, and Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.
Currently, Planned Parenthood has constructed or is constructing three mega (10,000 square feet or larger) abortion centers in Black neighborhoods: one in the Churchill community of Richmond, VA, … in Charlotte, NC and the third in Birmingham, AL …
In protest of this new construction and to expose their agenda of extermination, a processional will begin August 30, 2019 from the Mt. Olivet Church in Churchill, VA. Stops will be made in Raleigh, NC and Charlotte, NC. to add participants who will proceed to Atlanta, GA and spend the night. On August 31, 2019 the processional will continue on to Birmingham where a rally and prayer meeting will conclude the National Day of Mourning.
It is just awful. All those pregnant black women who are abducted by employees of Planned Parenthood, placed into a medical coma and then subjected to an involuntary abortion.
The simple truth is that black and Hispanic women have higher rates of abortion than white-non Hispanic women — even when adjusted for income. To believe that this has anything to do with marketing efforts by Planned Parenthood is ridiculous. This is part of a continuing effort to demonize Planned Parenthood. Sadly it has had some political effect.
Family Research Council is the last organization on the planet that should be appealing for African-American support. Its leader, Tony Perkins has direct ties to David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan. The Thomas More Society is similarly hypocritical. As pious Catholics they oppose the forms of birth control that would reduce the need for abortions.
Abortion is a very complex issue. If only these folks cared as much about people after they are born as they care about fetuses they might be of service to society. Anti-choice warriors don’t want anyone to have an abortion. They seek to substitute their religious judgment for that of pregnant women who have determined that they require a legal medical procedure.
It is not Planned Parenthood that is targeting and exploiting African-Americans. Sponsors of this event are doing just that to dishonestly delegitimize Planned Parenthood.
