American Family Association has sent out an email hawking this $16.00, 50% polyester display of stupidity (and bad taste). One Million Moms is just an AFA mail stop run by Monica Cole who has less intelligence than an unripe avocado.
Whoever designed this tacky thing obviously doesn’t know any LGBTQ people (a bit of “queer eye” might have helped).
It was the language in the email that caught my attention:
Support the efforts of One Million Moms by wearing this T-shirt and standing
against the evil in our culture that is seeking to destroy our children.
AFA, an anti-LGBTQ hate group, defines evil as anything associated with gay or transgender people. Good and godly is anything that denigrates LGBTQ people. Throw in some misinformation, promote conversion therapy or claim that transphobia is based on science and good becomes “very” good.
But that’s not sufficient.
To gain the approval of American Family Association one must assert that those evil LGBTQ persons are determined to harm children. AFA is particularly enthusiastic about conspiracies involving public school teachers, school boards or just about anyone else who isn’t bigoted. For example: AFA: “To Corrupt Kids, the Gay Mafia Undermines California’s Education Standards.”
American Family Association wants people to believe many things. Among these are that gay men are child molesters; that sexual orientation and gender identity are formed through the influence of others (contagion) and that their god is pissed off. In fact, their god is perpetually pissed. Of course they also want people to believe that donating money to AFA will make people patriots and true Christians.
It is a puzzling standard given AFA’s vigorous support for Donald Trump (which violated IRS rules for nonprofit organizations).
According to AFA, LGBTQ people are evil but a sociopath, serial adulterer, tax cheat and pathological liar with two divorces and six creative bankruptcies is a pillar of decency.
AFA even supported the baseless conspiracy theory that Trump won the 2020 election. AFA’s folks (like leader Tim Wildmon) are not just hypocrites. They will promote any lie in service to their agenda.
Indeed, on January 6, 2021, at 11:04 AM, just prior to the violent insurrection, AFA propagandists offered two blog posts supporting election challenges. This trip is for Constitution, not just our president and All eyes on VP Pence and Congress.
All this while thumping a Bible and waving the American flag. Moreover, after reviewing their tax returns and to a great deal of certainty, those “patriots” could never survive a tax audit. Never.
So go ahead and buy a goddamned t-shirt. Show your support for an amoral group of bigots. American Family Association will inhale those dollars and exhale hate.
