Brian S. Brown is upset that American Values Highlight Inclusiveness

Is Brian S. Brown truly distressed?
Or is he running out of donor bait?

Brian S. Brown is upset that American values for inclusiveness are depicted at U.S. embassies. According to an email authored by Brown on behalf of International Organization for the Family:

[T]he Biden administration did something shocking the other day to denigrate the US flag and undermine the American values that inspired soldiers to give their lives to defend our nation. Joe Biden’s Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, issued a worldwide directive granting “blanket authorization” for embassies to fly the LGBT rainbow flag on the same flagpole as Old Glory.
The hate group needs money

“Iran will never fly a rainbow flag. Nor will Taliban controlled areas of Afghanistan.”

American values highlight inclusiveness. Contrast that with Mr. Brown’s friends in Russia which is effectively a dictatorship. Russia will not fly a rainbow flag. In fact, under Russian law, doing so is illegal. Russian citizens do not have freedom of expression.

Iran will never fly a rainbow flag. Nor will Taliban controlled areas of Afghanistan.

Mr. Brown also forgets that some of the soldiers who died in defense of our country are LGBT persons. Many in the closet at the time. Since 2011 many have done so in the open. None of the end-of-world scenarios that the religious right claimed would occur with the repeal of DADT have come to pass.

What’s a Brian S. Brown polemic without a helping of bullshit?

For at least the next two months – and perhaps longer – Old Glory will be accompanied by the rainbow flag all over the world. It’s a powerful symbol to the world that the US considers the LGBT agenda to be the most important American value, our top policy priority.

“Top priority?” During LGBT Pride month we show the world that America does not discriminate because religious extremists disapprove of LGBTQ people. In fact Brian S. Brown is part of a small, and diminishing, minority.

  • A majority of Republicans support marriage equality.
  • An even larger majority of Republicans (62%) support nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people.
  • 74% of White Catholics support nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people. Last time I checked Mr. Brown is a White Catholic.
  • Fewer than one in five Americans (19%) oppose nondiscrimination protections for LGBT Americans.

The truth is that displaying the Pride flag is complementary to the American flag. We are a diverse nation; one that embraces equality. We do not always get there as rapidly as some people want but eventually equality prevails.

Brian S. Brown wants an America that is similar to Iran. Just replace the mullahs with Christian clergy. Americans reject that kind of society. We always have been, and always will be, a secular nation.
