Mad Mat Staver, leader of Liberty Counsel, an anti-LGBTQ hate group sits down with Luis Ruiz and Angel Colon. This became the source of an anti-LGBTQ video. Ruiz and Colon were shot at the Pulse Nightclub in 2016. Both now claim to be ex-gay. Thus, they are cooperating with Mat Staver, a notorious bigot.
Luis Ruiz and Angel Colon are just two of the 102 people who were injured at the Pulse Nightclub massacre. Initially both of these men were LGBTQ allies. When the attention wore off, when they needed a way to earn a living, they got religion and claim to be ex-gay. Sure.
Ruiz, who is HIV positive, claims that he prayed for redemption. Then the “holy spirit” came into his room and told him (he “heard a voice”) “It not a gay to straight thing. It’s a lost to saved thing.” Ruiz actually expects, demands actually, that people believe he had a chat with his go.
Colon said: “The enemy was trying to suck me back into that lifestyle.”
So one guy heard the voice of his god. The other guy heard the voice of the Devil. Strange how things work out.
On their Facebook page is written: “You can Love People and stay loyal to God’s word. Be Fearless in your Identity in Jesus.”
It is the standard inoculation. “We’re not bigots. We LOVE LGBTQ people.” Yet (knowing full well that they are still gay) they chose to do a video with a notorious hate group leader.
On top of all that — and I am a victim of gun violence — they are exploiting, and allowing others to exploit, a tragedy. 50 people were murdered. It was the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history until the 2017 Las Vegas shooting.
These two idiots are shameless. They are on a speaking tour (presumably for money). They are also selling tacky T-shirts. The one on the right is $26. I suppose that anyone who believes that these two yaked with God and the Devil might be willing to pay $26 for that.
Pray your gay away and conversion therapy principally exist to justify repression and discrimination. Mat Staver is all in on the toxic process because he is trying to convince people that sexual orientation and gender identity are choices. Choices that do not deserve nondiscrimination protections.
At Liberty Counsel’s website the introduction to the video includes a description:
From Massacre to Messiah — A story of the amazing redemptive love of Jesus and His life-changing power …
“Disgraceful grifters” is closer to reality. They are beyond any real redemption.
