The celebration of both ignorance and the absence of critical thinking defies ordinary rationality.
Before I get into this, it is important to note that the majority of Catholics are not transphobic.
Monday, Robert Siedlecki offers up: Speaking truth to power: one courageous bishop’s stand against transgender ideology.
International Organization for the Family is deemed a hate group by the SPLC. Moreover, IOF’s Robert Siedlecki might be one of the reasons for that designation. Siedlecki, an unhinged religious extremist, is, not surprisingly, an irrational Defender of the Faith™.
We get it. The Church does not approve of transgender persons in defense of Genesis 1:27:
Ergo, Robert Siedlecki does not approve of transgender persons in defense of the Church. Neither does Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Arlington VA. I have written about Burbidge before. Burbidge idiotically asserts — quite literally — that transgender people do not exist:
Mr. Siedlecki is woefully confused. Religious dogma is only truth if one dismissed contrary evidence. In this case there is ample evidence that transgender persons do, in fact, exist (with or without the Church’s approval).
Furthermore, Bishop Burbidge is not speaking anything “to power.” Burbidge’s constituency is limited to religious zealots who are Catholic.
Moreover, it is profoundly moronic to falsely claim that transgender persons are adherents to an “ideology.” However, it is easy to understand why a slave to religious doctrine would regurgitate that nonsense. The only people who believe that drivel are the same religious zealots that Burbidge appeals to.
“The promoters of this nonsense believe that the faithful are stupid.”
I am loathe to restate the obvious: People are transgender to mitigate the effects of a medical condition for which there is no other effective intervention known to medical science.
According to Mr. Siedlecki:
Bishop Burbidge urges the faithful to not give in to the false compassion of transgender activists, but to be the sign of contradiction the Church was always meant to be.
Allow me to clue in Siedlecki and Burbidge: No one seeks their compassion. Furthermore — as hard as it might be for them to believe — no one seeks their approval.
In fact, what possible impact do transgender people have on their lives (or the lives of “the faithful”)? The contradiction to scripture causes these people to pretend that the contradictory element does not exist.
To buy into this nonsense requires some interesting assumptions:
- Medical science is not scientific.
- Evidence is imaginary.
- Dogma supersedes evidence.
- Common sense is neither common nor sensible.
- If religious authorities insist that 2+2=5 then 2+2=5 regardless of evidence to the contrary.
- The construct of gender identity does not exist.
The promoters of this nonsense believe that the faithful are stupid. Siedlecki goes on to redefine reality:
[Burbidge] has struck a brilliant blow for truth and against radical transgender ideology. Rather than cowering before the worldly might of left-wing elites, Bishop Burbidge successfully argues–from Church teaching, science, and the catalogue of harms caused by transgenderism–for the correct interpretation of the human body and offers encouragement to others around the world who want to enter the fight for truth.
“What always astonishes me is the willingness of self-proclaimed arbiters of morality to lie.”
There is nothing “brilliant” in willful ignorance. Furthermore, dogma that contradicts evidence is not truth. Moreover, disapproved of people are always “radical.” Furthermore, a successful argument requires substantiation. Moreover, there is no scientific support for this idiocy. (Why is it that science deniers often claim that their view is based on science?) Finally, bigotry is the only thing that is encouraged by this dishonesty.
What always astonishes me is the willingness of self-proclaimed arbiters of morality to lie. “False witness” is supposedly biblically impermissible.
Nevertheless, Mr. Siedlecki is content to promote bullshit. For example, Siedlecki quoting Burbidge:
“the differences between man and woman are ordered towards their complementary union in marriage. Indeed, the differences between man and woman, male and female, are unintelligible apart from such union… Sexual difference is at the heart of family life. Children need, and have a right to, a father and a mother.”
If the above seems familiar that is because it was one of the primary arguments in opposition to marriage equality. Furthermore, people like Ryan T. Anderson and Robert P. George assured us that same-sex marriage would adversely affect traditional marriage.
Of course that has not happened. Neither man has sufficient class to admit that they were wrong and to apologize for smearing the gay community.
“Siedlecki and Burbidge have neither the training nor experience to contradict the clinical practice standards of the American Academy of pediatrics.”
Siedlecki goes on to claim that an unsound argument is sound:
Burbidge then buttresses his argument for the proper understanding of the human body by appealing to science. He states:
We know from biology that a person’s sex is genetically determined at conception and present in every cell of the body. Because the body tells us about ourselves, our biological sex …
No one disputes that. It’s like saying: “I won the argument by proving that water is heavier than air.” Burbidge does precisely what all of the religious nitwits do. Burbidge is pretending that gender identity does not exist. And Siedlecki is only too willing to go along with it.
Even a Kool-Aid gulper like Robert Siedlecki should know better than to offer:
Finally, Bishop Burbidge points to the harms caused by transgendersism to support his case. He notes that all too often “’gender affirmation’ not only does not resolve a person’s struggles but also can exacerbate them.” First, he notes that transgenderism causes serious psychological harm to children.
Bishop Michael Francis Burbidge has no medical training. Burbidge is a catechist, philosopher and theologian.
Here’s the vomit count:
- Siedlecki and Burbidge have neither the training nor experience to contradict the clinical practice standards of the American Academy of pediatrics.
- There is a veritable mountain of evidence that gender-affirming care works.
- There is no evidence that gender-affirming care makes gender dysphoria worse. (And neither man is able to cite any.)
- Similarly, there is no evidence to support the notion that gender affirming care causes “psychological harm to children.”
Bishop Burbidge is lying. For his part, Robert Siedlecki has a serious case of confirmation bias. The bullshit doesn’t stop there:
“”LGBTQ people are deserving of dignity.” At the same time they are claiming that trans kids are “confused” little perverts who do not really exist.”
we are causing grave physical harm to our children when we allow them to take puberty blockers and undergo gender reassignment surgery in order to “affirm” them.
The above is a pants-on-fire deliberate lie. Puberty blockers have potential side effects. So does aspirin. “[G]rave physical harm” is hyperbolic nonsense. Moreover, children are not candidates for gender confirmation surgery.
The “underlying conditions” cliché:
people who use chemicals or surgery to transition very often not only do not solve their problems but also end up not treating the underlying issues at the root of their transgender confusion.
Secondly, transgender people are not “confused.” Burbidge and Siedlecki are confused. They are both spouting utter nonsense to support religious dogma. Moreover, gender identity conversion efforts are extremely toxic.
The folks who offer gibberish about harms that are not harms are promoting real harm to children. Conversion therapy is harmful. Promoting prejudice is harmful.
“Just as gender identity support improves the health of trans kids. Undermining that support deteriorates the health of trans kids.”
Then there is the usual “LGBTQ people are deserving of dignity.” At the same time they are claiming that trans kids are “confused” little perverts who do not really exist. The parents of trans kids who carefully weigh the evidence to provide the best care for their children are child abusers. The doctors who care for trans kids are all quacks. The scientists who research this area are all cranks. The academic journals that publish that research are rags.
Significantly, Bishop Burbidge urges us to avoid giving in to the clarion call of transgenderism out of a misguided sense of compassion. While we are to avoid bullying and attacking the dignity of people suffering from gender confusion, nevertheless we must maintain our devotion to the truth.
What is this “clarion call” and who, exactly, are the callers?
Affording dignity means deliberately offending transgender persons:
In particular, Bishop Burbidge urges Catholics to not use the new names and pronouns of people suffering from gender confusion because doing so would be a negation of the truth.
It’s more than just offense Much more. Just as gender identity support improves the health of trans kids. Undermining that support deteriorates the health of trans kids. And they are doing it deliberately.
“Perhaps it’s not the kids, their parents, their doctors, scientists and academic journals that are all lying. Perhaps … it is the religious crackpots who have everything backwards.”
While we are in the process of promoting dishonest crap:
Burbidge also places special responsibility on parents in regard to protecting their children from transgenderism in two particular areas: internet use and the public schools. In regard to the internet and social media …
Gender dysphoria is not contagious. These imbeciles are encouraging parents to teach their kids something that is demonstrably false. Children who are taught untruths about transgender kids are more likely to abuse their classmates.
A great deal of this BS is re-tooled homophobia. Remember when they used to bitch about “promoting homosexuality?” Here is the transphobic version:
In regard to the rabid promotion of transgenderism in our public school system, Burbidge urges special vigilance.
What the hell are these people talking about? Some upisdownism for good measure:
By appealing to arguments from Catholic teaching, science, and the significant harms caused by transgenderism, Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington … takes a courageous stand for the truth in a culture addicted to the lie.
Perhaps it’s not the kids, their parents, their doctors, scientists and academic journals that are all lying. Perhaps — just maybe — it is the religious crackpots who have everything backwards.
