Log Cabin Republicans
Yup, that’s Newt Gingrich, of all people, being lionized by LCR

GOP leadership is assuring evangelical Christians that their party is as homophobic and transphobic as ever.

Monday, Hate Group Leader Tony Perkins has new guidance from Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee. Let us recall recent events as reported by Fox News.

On November 8, Fox ran with RNC announces ‘Pride Coalition,’ partnership with Log Cabin Republicans ahead of midterms. The subtitle reads:

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said RNC is ‘committed’ to working with the country’s largest group representing LGBTQ conservatives and allies.

A gathering of cynics and the self-loathing set:

The announcement came during the Log Cabin Republicans’ “Spirit of Lincoln Gala,” which took place Saturday night at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and attracted a high-profile group of attendees, including former President Trump and former first lady Melania Trump, who was the event’s guest of honor, and other prominent Republicans, including former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who was given the “Majority Maker” award, said the RNC is “committed” to working with the Log Cabin Republicans — the country’s largest Republican organization dedicated to representing LGBTQ conservatives and allies — calling the organization “a partner to fight for our country’s future.”

Donald Trump was more homophobic and transphobic than George W. Bush. A large portion of Trump’s base was comprised of evangelical Christians. Trump took every opportunity to appease them and pander to them. I do not recall Melania Trump doing anything worthy on behalf of the LGBTQ community.

“The sanctimonious blowhard will say anything if it supports his political agenda. Honesty is apparently not a “family value.”

For his part, Rick Grenell is a “drop-the-T” guy as is much of the Log Cabin constituency. Nevertheless, Log Cabin continues to insist that it is “the nation’s largest Republican organization dedicated to representing LGBT conservatives and allies.”

The following day, November 9, Tony Perkins, on behalf of Family Research Council, had a shit fit. The self-righteous Perkins is also bald faced liar:

Conservatives, who’ve been working fast and furiously to stop the transgender agenda in public schools, couldn’t believe their ears. Right now, most Americans’ biggest priority isn’t embracing “diversity” — it’s stopping their children from being raped and assaulted in its name. Just this month, in two separate states, girls have been sodomized and groped in their own school bathrooms thanks to the gender extremism the RNC is now signaling support for.

Perkins is referring to two girls in Loudoun County, VA who were raped. (Funny how all the noise from Loudoun ceased once the election was over.) First of all, the perpetrator is not transgender. Moreover, in the first case, the girl invited him into the girls’ room for a tryst. She changed her mind once they were together.

Furthermore, the second incident did not occur in a bathroom. It was in an empty classroom and, again, the rapist is not transgender. Perkins keeps repeating the same lie over and over again. Perkins knows that he is lying. The sanctimonious blowhard will say anything if it supports his political agenda. Honesty is apparently not a “family value.”

“”Parental rights” is code for (among other things) requiring public schools to out LGBTQ kids to their parents.”

Perkins takes a victory lap:

In an email dated today, Monday, Perkins is citing correspondence from Ronna McDaniel which is addressed to: “Leaders of the Faith Community.” Interestingly I cannot find this letter anywhere other than Family Research Council’s website.

McDaniel confirms her support of bigotry:

As RNC Chairwoman, I am proud to defend the Republican Party platform that was adopted in 2016 and reaffirmed in 2020, including on the issues of traditional marriage, parental rights, and the rights of the unborn.
  • “The issue of traditional marriage” means continued attempts to nullify the effect of the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. (See platform excerpts below.)
  • “Parental rights” is code for (among other things) requiring public schools to out LGBTQ kids to their parents.

The GOP will pander to LGBTQ people to get their votes but don’t expect anything in return (and not how LGBT become just “LG:”

The hiring of a staff member to do outreach to the gay community in no way changed our platform. The Republican Party’s platform was written, debated, and adopted at the 2016 Republican National Convention and reaffirmed at the 2020 Republican National Convention.

The 2016 platform, which McDaniel has now reaffirmed, includes gems like:

man-made law must be consistent with God-given, natural rights; and that if God-given, natural, inalienable rights come in conflict with government, court, or human-granted rights, God-given, natural, inalienable rights always prevail;

I think that we all know what “natural law” means and refers to. An expected omission:

we oppose discrimination based on race, sex, religion, creed, disability, or national origin and support statutes to end such discrimination.

“McDaniels’ December missive … includes an outright rejection of Log Cabin Republicans.”

And, of course:

Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values. We condemn the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Windsor, which wrongly removed the ability of Congress to define marriage policy in federal law. We also condemn the Supreme Court’s lawless ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges …
In other words, to satisfy conservative Christians, McDaniel has affirmed her support for the assertion that our marriages are “lawless” and, thus, illegitimate. Yet, Log Cabin Republicans supports this outrageous bigotry.

Returning to McDaniels’ December missive, it includes an outright rejection of Log Cabin Republicans:

“Partnership” with Log Cabin Republicans:
It has been wrongly reported that this new position is a “partnership” with the Log Cabin Republicans. This is not true, and it was never our intention for it to be portrayed that way.
The RNC cannot formally partner with any soft money organization, including this one.
The goal of RNC outreach positions like this one is to convince new voters to support the principles of our Party and vote Republican. It is not about allowing other organizations to force their agendas on us.

As I indicated above, Fox News quoted McDaniel using the word “partner.”

“… the GOP favors the interests of religious conservatives — a choice — over a beleaguered minority group whose members are involuntarily affiliated.”

McDaniel goes on to further remove the transgender community from their efforts:

There are similar concerns about the word “pride” which to some signals support for a movement that does not align with our conservative principles. We’ve been asked to reconsider this language, and we are doing so: we will no longer use “pride coalition” and instead use “Republican gay outreach,” which is consistent with the other outreach programs within our strategic initiatives program.

“Pride” means that we are not ashamed of our sexuality. The Christian right and McDaniel are committed to the concept that we must be shamed and can never be approved of.

Where is the push-back from Log Cabin Republicans?

The GOP has clearly stated that it does not have to earn our votes. Moreover, the GOP favors the interests of religious conservatives — a choice — over a beleaguered minority group whose members are involuntarily affiliated.

The simple fact is that Log Cabin Republicans are more interested in visiting Mar-a-Lago than they are in their own community. They want to be part of what they consider to be an elite set of people.

If, in fact, there is an elite then it is not defined by borrowed money expressed in garish terms. The elite are defined by their accomplishments and Mr. Trump has accomplished nothing other than to ruin the confidence held by the citizens of a democracy that its elections are fair and honest.
